Cast Your Cares, Part 2

I Peter 5:7 Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Luke 12:7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

What are the cares that He wants us to cast upon Him? How big do they have to be to qualify for casting?

We usually think of these cares as our worries, our fears, and our serious situations. Those are included, but our cares cover a much wider territory than that. What about your distractions—the issues that capture your thoughts far too often, the nagging thoughts that weigh you down and that you wish you didn’t keep thinking about? What thoughts keep getting in the way when you’re trying to pray? These are cares too, and ones we often keep to ourselves.

A dear friend once told me that her mother encouraged her to limit her prayers to the big things, as God was so busy that she shouldn’t bother Him with “the little things.” That’s not our God. He sees everything, and knows us as deeply as having the number of hairs counted (and that must be an ever-changing number!)

Do an inventory of all things that weigh you down, that are always in the back of your mind. What are the unsolved issues, even if they don’t dominate? What things lurk on the highest, farthest shelves in our minds and hearts? God knows if you don’t. Ask Him to reveal them, as they are there, affecting you and getting in the way.

Prayer: I recognize that You are so big that You care about everything. Since Your thoughts and ways are not like ours, I can’t judge what is a “big thing” and what’s a “little” one. Help me to find all my cares so I can cast them all upon You.
