Changing Your Default Setting, Part 6

Psalm 139:13-14a  For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made….

Genesis 1:26  Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…”

Romans 8:31b-32  If God be for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Old Default Setting

“I’m worthless (or stupid, or a jerk, or nothing…).”

We have worth first because we have been created in God’s image. No one—no one—is worthless. No sin can erase the image that all of us are made in. No matter what you’ve done, you retain the dignity of being made in His image. Take a moment and think about that. Let it sink in until you get to the point of never calling yourself stupid ever again.

Then take another look at Psalm 139, partially quoted above. We are all “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Even you—you are not the exception. In God’s eyes, you are wonderfully made. Agree with Him on that, no matter how you may feel about yourself.

Lastly, if you’re a Christian, then God has made you worthy to not just be His creation, but His child. What the cross of Christ did was to make us worthy to be in Christ and share the benefits listed above in Romans 8.

Many of us catch ourselves when we disrespect others, but freely call ourselves all sorts of names. Let’s stop that habit, if we have it. It’s all based on what He’s done, and if we’re in Christ, we have been made worthy.

Prayer: Father, I declare that I stand in agreement with You that I am made in Your image, am fearfully and wonderfully made, and have been made worthy of partaking in the inheritance of the saints (Colossians 1:12). Help me change my thoughts about me, so that what I really feel and say aligns with Your truth about me.
